There is a world of opportunity for luxury train travel enthusiasts. Many countries have companies that run luxury trains that enable comfortable and anxiety free journeys to interesting destinations. One can book a tour to travel through parts of India in Imperial splendour, or slide across the top of the world in the Trans Siberian Express.

The Rovos rail company offers many safaris but an interesting one is called the 'collage'. This is an anxiety free tour of the country with frequent excursions onto golf courses or game viewing drives. These experiences can be enjoyed without the anxieties of driving and navigating that usually accompany travel by car. Each experience can be enjoyed in its entirety and then passengers can retreat to air condition private carriages and a leisurely drink.

The company has refurbished carriages in the style of Edwardian first class luxury. Wood panelling, comfortable fittings and attentive, friendly service are the hallmarks of the rail service. Excellent cuisine is provided in restaurant cars. There is an observation car that allows passengers to view the passing scenes in complete comfort. All the carriages are air conditioned but it is also possible to feel the fresh air from special viewing platforms.

Various tours to African destinations are available. The Victoria Falls, Dar es Salaam and even Cairo are mentioned in different safari schedules. One that will appeal to golf enthusiasts in particular is a nine day odyssey that combines opportunities to walk some of the country's most famous fairways with scenic and game viewing experiences.

Setting out from the capital city of Pretoria the train leaves from a railway museum called Capital Park. It heads east, dropping over the Drakensberg mountain range towards the area known as the Lowveld. This is a treasure trove of minerals such as platinum and chrome beneath the earth and of wild animals living on the surface in the Kruger National Park.

After first descending from the Highveld to the Lowveld passengers may disembark and drive through the world famous Kruger National Park. The 'big five' of animals live in the park together with very many other animals and birds. After reaching Swaziland the train turns south towards Kwa-Zulu Natal with its many scenic features that can be tasted at pre-determined stops.

The safari is called a collage because it combines an arrangement of pleasurable experiences as the train ambles on, and stops near golf courses, art galleries, historic sites, distilleries and shopping venues. The luxury train travel is interspersed with activities and then tourists may repair to their carriages, to shower, eat and sleep while the train rocks on.
